One day at the bar…
(estimated reading time 1 minute 42 seconds)
Stranger: Hey what do you think about the market action today?
Me: I think it just doesn’t matter.
In the end, if you’ve got a really well-designed portfolio built on the foundation of your goals and values. It just doesn’t matter.
Stranger: You mean you aren’t concerned about China? Ukraine? Covid-19? Inflation? Etc.
Me: Nope. It just doesn’t matter.
Stranger: You are kidding me right?
Me: Do you understand why your money is invested the way it is?
If you do the answer to you your questions or whatever you are hearing on the Financial Pornography Network is it just doesn’t matter.
Very often we hear or read something and think that suddenly we’ve got to run out and do something.
Like you need to buy this stock, the clown from the Financial Pornography Network featured today.
You need to get out of this market.
You need to invest more in Asia.
Whatever it is you get all caught up and in the end, it just doesn’t matter.
If it does have an impact on your portfolio it’s out of your control anyway.
It’s amazing to me how quickly we’re cycling through information.
When it’s first presented… It’s revolutionary. This is going to change everything. For the good or for the bad.
It is world-altering!
… it may make it a day or two. Maybe even a week.
The news cycle and our attention span have gotten so short.
We get so caught up in stuff.
If you paid attention to all those things that are going to change the world, it would be a full-time job.
So most of the time when we get concerned about or start losing sleep over those things.
We need to remind ourselves, “oh yeah that’s right I have a diversified portfolio built on purpose to give me the highest likelihood of meeting my goals and values, which I have clearly defined.”
So now I can lay in bed and say to myself that stuff that I just read /heard about IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!
